Geography Overview
At Huncote Primary School, we believe geography helps children to make sense of the world around them and understand their place within it. Our Geography curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, encourage exploration and develop a lifelong interest in the world’s people, places and environments.
Through the study of both human and physical geography, pupils explore a wide range of locations across the United Kingdom and the wider world. They develop an understanding of how landscapes are formed, how communities live and work, and how people and environments are connected. As pupils progress through the school, they build their knowledge of key geographical concepts while developing important enquiry, fieldwork, map-reading and analytical skills.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure knowledge and skills build progressively from Year 1 to Year 6. Through engaging enquiries, practical investigations, local area studies and the use of maps, atlases and digital technology, children learn to think like geographers, asking questions, analysing information and drawing informed conclusions.
We aim for all pupils to develop a secure understanding of the world at a local, national and global scale, alongside an appreciation of cultural diversity and environmental responsibility. By the time they leave Huncote Primary School, children will have the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand the challenges facing our world and their role as informed, responsible global citizens.
