Religious Education (RE) Overview
At Huncote Primary School, we believe that Religious Education plays an important role in helping children understand themselves, others and the diverse world in which they live. Through the study of a range of religions and worldviews, pupils develop knowledge, understanding, respect and empathy for people from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs.
Our RE curriculum is based on the Leicestershire Agreed Syllabus and provides opportunities for children to explore Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Humanism throughout their primary education. Pupils learn about the beliefs, traditions, celebrations and practices of different faiths, while also reflecting on their own experiences, values and views.
Through thoughtful discussion, enquiry and reflection, children are encouraged to ask meaningful questions about faith, identity, belonging, morality and the wider world. They learn to appreciate similarities and differences between religions and worldviews, developing the skills needed to engage respectfully with ideas that may be different from their own.
Our curriculum supports pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and promotes the values of respect, tolerance and understanding. By exploring a range of beliefs and perspectives, children become increasingly aware of their rights and responsibilities as members of a diverse society.
By the end of Year 6, pupils will have a secure understanding of the religions and worldviews studied and be able to discuss beliefs and values thoughtfully and respectfully. They leave Huncote Primary School as open-minded, reflective and respectful individuals who are well prepared to live and thrive in modern Britain.
