Personal Development

Personal Development Overview

At Huncote Primary School, personal development is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our school motto,”Aim High in All We Do”, we are committed to developing confident, respectful and responsible children who are prepared for life in modern Britain.

Our Personal Development curriculum is carefully designed to help every child develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and character needed to thrive both now and in the future. We believe that academic success is enhanced when children feel safe, valued, healthy and connected to their community.

From Reception to Year 6, personal development is taught through a broad and progressive curriculum which includes:

Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) through Oak National Academy
Online Safety through Oak National Academy
Financial Education through Oak National Academy
Everyone’s Welcome (No Outsiders)
British Values
Assemblies and collective worship
Pupil leadership opportunities
Educational visits and enrichment experiences
Wellbeing and mental health support
Character education through our school values

Our curriculum is built around three key themes:

I Belong

Children develop a sense of identity, belonging and community. They learn about positive relationships, diversity, inclusion, emotional wellbeing and respectful behaviour.

I Grow

Children develop confidence, resilience and independence. They learn how to make informed decisions, manage risks, look after their physical and mental health and set goals for the future.

I Contribute

Children learn how to make a positive difference to their school, community and the wider world. They develop leadership skills, understand their responsibilities as citizens and learn how to show kindness, empathy and respect for others.

Through this carefully planned approach, children leave Huncote Primary School as confident, resilient and compassionate young people who are ready for the next stage of their education and prepared to contribute positively to society.

Intent Statement

At Huncote Primary School, we believe that personal development is fundamental to children’s success both in school and beyond. Our aim is to provide every child with the knowledge, skills, experiences and values needed to become healthy, safe, confident and responsible citizens.

Through our Personal Development curriculum, children learn how to build positive relationships, understand and manage their emotions, celebrate diversity, stay safe online, make informed financial decisions and contribute positively to their communities. We aim to develop resilience, ambition, respect and confidence, ensuring all pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

Our curriculum promotes the school’s values and provides rich opportunities for children to develop character, leadership, independence and a strong sense of belonging. By the time pupils leave Huncote Primary School, they will understand who they are, how they can continue to grow and how they can make a positive contribution to the world around them.
