Science Overview
At Huncote Primary School, we believe that science helps children make sense of the world around them and inspires curiosity about how things work. Our Science curriculum is designed to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the natural and physical world whilst encouraging them to think, question and investigate like scientists.
Using the Grammarsaurus Science curriculum as the foundation for our long-term planning, pupils build a secure understanding of biology, chemistry and physics through a carefully sequenced programme of learning. Knowledge and skills are progressively developed from Year 1 to Year 6, enabling children to make connections between scientific concepts and deepen their understanding over time.
Practical investigation and scientific enquiry are at the heart of our curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, observe closely, collect and analyse data, and draw conclusions based on evidence. Through regular opportunities to work scientifically, children develop the skills of enquiry, reasoning and problem-solving that are essential both within science and across the wider curriculum.
Learning is enriched through first-hand experiences, outdoor learning, educational visits and opportunities to learn about the achievements of significant scientists. These experiences help children understand the relevance of science in everyday life and the important role it plays in shaping the future of our world.
We aim for all pupils to leave Huncote Primary School with a strong scientific knowledge base, a curiosity about the world around them and the confidence to investigate, question and think critically. By the end of Key Stage 2, children will have developed the skills and enthusiasm needed to continue their scientific learning and become informed citizens in an increasingly scientific and technological world.
