The Early Years Foundation Stage is the period of education from birth to 5 years. We recognise that children starting at Huncote have varied previous experiences from their pre-school/nursery settings and their home life too.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Overview
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a crucial stage in a child’s education, covering learning and development from birth to the end of the Reception year. At Huncote Primary School, we recognise that every child arrives with unique experiences, interests and starting points. Our EYFS curriculum is designed to provide a nurturing, stimulating and inclusive environment where all children can thrive, develop confidence and foster a lifelong love of learning.
We are committed to ensuring that every child feels happy, safe and valued. Through a balance of child-initiated exploration and carefully planned adult-led learning, we provide engaging opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity and independence. We encourage children to ask questions, take risks in their learning, build positive relationships and develop the resilience needed to overcome challenges.
Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and is underpinned by the prime areas of Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language, alongside the specific areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Learning is enriched through high-quality continuous provision, both indoors and outdoors, allowing children to practise and apply new skills in meaningful contexts.
Strong partnerships with parents are central to our approach. By working together, we support children to make the best possible progress and develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need for future success.
By the end of Reception, we aim for every child to be a confident, resilient and enthusiastic learner who is well prepared for the transition into Key Stage One. Children leave EYFS with secure foundations in communication, early reading, writing and mathematics, alongside the personal and social skills needed to continue their learning journey with confidence and independence.
